Knox influence the faith of Scotland more than anyone else in history. In a singular way his influence extended to North American Presbyterianism, through its heritage from Scottish Presbyterianism. Knox also became one of the fathers of the modern public education movement, championing educational reform, especially universal public education, aid for poor students and a revised Protestant curriculum. His commitment to public education influenced the educational system of America and elsewhere.

1. Knox was clearly influenced by godly individuals such as Patrick Hamilton, George Wishart and John Calvin. Who are your models? Whom do you want to be most like? What are some of the characteristics of a godly role model? Read I Corinthians 11:1 and Philippians 4:9.
2. Knox defended a form of civil disobedience in his written works. With organizations such as Operation Rescue in the news, Christians are one again struggling with this issue. What is your position on civil disobedience? What do you say to those who oppose your position? Consider Acts 4-5. If possible, read a book on Christian ethics that deals with this subject.
3. Knox believed and taught that a government must be committed to biblical righteousness. Do you agree? What are some things you can do to promote such righteousness in your own country?
